Colours not right on printer?

T

Tiscali

Hi,

I have set up a 4 colour swatch in Photoshop (blue, green, red, yellow).
Print on HP 2550 Laserjet and HP Deskjet 840C and the colours don't match
the screen representations...

Have calibrated the monitor with Adobe Gamma...

The colours look too saturated (like Kodachrome)...

No ICC profiles available for the Laserjet (I think) anyway, should I be
using one? The Laserjet is the one that really concerns me...

Anyone know why this is?

Make sure you are using the RGB model in Photoshop. Although the printer uses
CMYK ink or toner the driver expects RGB data. Selecting CMYK will result in
prints that are much too saturated.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for your reply.

In Photoshop Edit>Colours:

I am using the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 colour space and the CMYK is set to U.S.
Web Coated SWOP v2 in Photshop...

I have not touched any of the other settings like Colour Management
Policies, Engine, Intent and Advanced...

It's the green that particularly concerns me; it not just Kodachrome
saturated; it's a different green!!

I have asked HP about a printer specific ICM profile... would this help
maybe?

Thanks
