Where can I find a chart that links specific codecs with applications?
I am having problems getting sound when playing DVD movies. (My sound
plays CDs and mp3s just fine.)

Codecs work for several applications, usually.

Check the sound settings with your DVD Player (eg. Media Player). Next:
Start > Run: dvdupgrd.exe /detect
See if there is an update available (homepage).
