How do you choose which video codec should be used? I want to use XviD for example. How do i do that? In other Video Programs you can easily choose all sorts of codecs.

/please help

Hi there,

Well I'll try :)

Click on...................

(Right Click ) My Computer > Properties > Sound Video and Game Controllers >
and then either Audio or Video Codecs.

Once there you will see the list that XP recognises as proper codecs. If you
believe that you have one in your system that is not in the list then either XP
would not accept it as such, or, it is not registered. You will see when you
look at the properties of each of them that you can adjust where they are in
the list.....The way the list works is along the lines of...XP knows what it
wants and it scans down the list starting with number one...as soon as it finds
a Codec that fits the requirements it uses it, even if there is a better one
further on.

I have always believed it to be good practice to reboot the machine after
changing any of these settings. You should also make either a backup of XP or
create a System Restore Point before changing anything.

Please take note that my advise is to not change any of these settings and if
you do so causing system failure it is your responsibilty.
