i am trying to get pictures off a digital camera. When I connect the camera,
the computer automatically detects and tries to install. But then I get an
error, CODE 38 that says "Windows cannot load the device driver for this
hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory.
(Code 38)"

i have removed the device, restarted, reinstalled.... but still get the same
error, any ideas?????

Use the add and remove program in control panel and see if the camer
is listed in there. If so uninstall it there....Do not reboot

Navigate to device manager (windows key + pause/break key) click o
hardware tab and choose "device manager"...in the ne
window look for a camera installation (probably in the USB controlle
section) and highlight the entry(dbl clk) and choose drive
tab...choose to uninstall the camera
Do Not Reboo
Unplug all usb devices except keyboard /mouse then reboot you
system

Now try to reinstall the camera

camera is not listed in add remove programs.

camera is listed in imaging devices, i unistalled it, unplugged it rebooted.

Plug the camera back in. Plug and Play automatically detects the camera.

"A problem occured during hardware installation. Your hardware may not work
properly."

in device manager digital still camera has exclamation point on it.

"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous
instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 38)"
