Cobain accessing Internet...

I just installed Cobain Backup last night. I have it set to
only run manually. The entire time it's sitting in the system tray,
it's downloading at 1.5 KB/s, and uploading at 0.7 KB/s. I let it do
that for about 24 hours, and it never stopped. As soon as I exited
the program a few minutes ago, my uploading immediately dropped back
to its usual 0.0 KB/s, and my downloading immediately dropped back to
its usual 0.1 to 0.2 KB/s. What the heck is it downloading and
uploading, while it's set to not run unless I start it manually?

Does Karen's Replicator constantly access your Internet
connection like that?

that's likely not the update check (unless it can get locked into something continuous?)
maybe a 'packet sniffer' will tell you? (i don't know anything about that besides the name :-) )

is the ver you tried cb7? (i've used 7 only once so far, on xphome sp2. cb7 froze on winme)
i think it uses tcp/ip in ways that cb6 didn't.
zonealarm icon in systray looks really busy, but i assume the 'traffic' is all 'local'.

I did. It doesn't say anything about the program constantly
accessing the Interent.

Some firewall programs are dumb and report all traffic that goes to or
through 127.0.0.0 which is internal to the computer. One that especially
bad about reporting data going to this dummy address this is Zone Alarm

With nothing downloading from the internet start the program and see if your
Ethernet lights are flashing on your DSL/Cable modem or router.

I'm running the latest, as of last night, version of the program with no
problems on my XP machine.

With autoupdates turned off I have zero traffic on the LED's on my DSL modem
but Zone Alarm is reporting the programs use of the internal bogus address
at 127.0.0.0. All of which is exactly what the FAQ says will happen.

You're exactly right. The program that was telling me that it
was uploading and downloading is Memory and CPU Observer 2.3. I
fired up Port Explorer, and it verified that the traffic was from
127.0.0.0 to 127.0.0.0. I'm using PC-cillin's firewall.

Thanks for your patience. I learned something.
