Coasters...

I see references to coasters from time to time here. Generally, I know that
it refers to a useless burned DVD. But I am curious... Is a coaster a bad
DVD or simply one that you don't like because of some kind of poor editing
techniques? In other words, is a coaster playable or not?

Generally it refers to a failed burn but
an unusable disk for any reason even
poor editing could be called a coaster.
