CMD prompt opens full window

If I launch the command prompt from the accessories menu or from the
start menu (it's also pinned there), it opens less than full screen and
has a header where I can right click and change it properties.

If I launch the command prompt from the Run box, or from the file itself
(windows\sysem32\cmd.exe, it opens full screen and there is no header on
top. The only way I can get back to my desktop is by typing "exit".

It didn't used to be this way. How can I change it back?

Thanks,
Bruce

Press Alt/Enter to toggle to a window. If this isn't remembered,
right-click cmd.exe, click Properties, and set it to open in a window
rather than full screen.

Hi Bruce,

Open the command prompt from either the Run box or via System32 folder. Hit
either the Window key or Ctrl+Esc which will open the Start menu and minimize
the command prompt window. Right-click on the minimized command prompt window
and select Properties. Under the Options tab, in the Display Options section,
click in the radio button beside "Window" to select it. Click on OK. In the
Apply Properties dialogue box, click in the radio button beside "Save
properties for future windows with the same title", then click on OK.

Hit Alt + Enter to get out of full screen. Alt + Enter toggles from a
window to full screen.

Try this.

Open the cmd.exe that is opening in full screen.
Hit Alt + Enter to get out of full screen.
Right click on the TITLE BAR at the top and click on Properties.
On the Options tab, make sure that Window is selected NOT Full Screen.
Click OK.
On the Apply Properties window that pops up, select: Save properties for
future windows with the same title and click OK.
Close that command prompt and reopen it to make sure it opens in a window
and not full screen.

Try F11

Try F11

Obviously you did not try it.

F11 does NOT work to toggle from a window to full screen for cmd.exe or
command.com.

The F11 key toggles between Full Screen mode and a Normal or Maximized
window in Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer and folders.

Alt + Enter toggles from a window to full screen for cmd.exe or command.com.

"To switch between a full screen and a window, press ALT+ENTER."

To open an MS-DOS program from a command prompt window

Or paste the following line into Start | Run and click OK...

hh win_dos.chm::/windows_dos_start_dos.htm

"To switch between window mode and full-screen mode on x86-based computers,

Regards,
That worked.

In the past, I had done a properties on the command prompt in the
Accessories menu, and then resized for all future windows. I thought that
would affect the command prompt that I ran from Run, but it didn't.

Furthermore, I had to do the properties command on each shortcut that I
used to open command.exe. Setting one did not affect any other shortcut.

When I got to the one on my start, run, menu, I didn't know you could
minimize the full size window by hitting the Windows key. Once I did that,
and it minimized itself in the quick launch toolbar bar, I followed your
instructions and all is fine now.

Thanks.

Yep, worked like a charm. Thanks!
