Closes Disc Early

This has been driving me mad. Every time I try to burn a CD it converts all the tracks but then only copies one on to the CD and closes the disc, rendering it useless. Why is this? What am I doing wrong? Someone please help me work this out. I have wasted too many CDs.
 
It might be of help to readers if you also stated which application you are using to burn CDs. Is it Windows Media, Roxio, Nero, Jukebox or other???
