Close Outlook without disconnecting it

When I close out OUTLOOK, I am always disconnected and will not be notified
when I recieve messages. The only way I know I have a message is if I
restart OUTLOOK for this purpose, and then OUTLOOK has to update itself from
"the last disconnect". Please inform me of a way or ways to stop this from
occurring.

Let me make sure I understand your question. You expect Outlook still to
function even though you've exited the program?

What account types are in your profile? What is file, work offline set to?
