Close active Workbook with upper right hand X does not work

HI:
I have Excel 2000 and have a BIG problem. the Upper right hand X for
closing the Workbook does not work. It's grayed out. And when I pick File,
Exit from the menu it wants to SAVE the spreadsheet/workbook even when it's
new and blank.

The only thing I've done is to add a template (Book1.xlt) that contains a
macro for adding the full path to my footer.

Your help would be appreciated.

OK. I followed the Knowledge Base article directions in 260199. Revoved the
file named gwxl97.xla and now .... walla ... My Excel close button is no
longer grayed out. What's interesting though is that Groupwise didn't have
the integration option checked. Well anyway, thank you VERY very much.

The Close Button (the X on the right hand corner) grayed out again after
a small amount of time passage (a few minutes) . I still cannot close my
worksheets.

AND File, Exit still gets me the "save file" screen even when it's a new
blank spreadsheet.
