The calendar/clock keeps randomly resetting itself to 00:00, 1st January 2002.

It's extremely annoying - is the battery dying? Or is there another problem?

Do you know what the cost of a battery is? Do you think investing that
amount of money in a potential solution to your problem is worthwhile? If
you think it is worth such a $$$/£££ investment then go ahead, if you aren't
prepared to release such funds without more certainty then continue looking
for alternative solutions.
Personally I would risk all of that the money- batteries don't last for
ever. And it sounds like a potential solution where you don't seem to have
any other possibilities to try.

(copy your current BIOS settings down somewhere in case you need to re-enter
them if they get lost).

Re the other snide post, it only costs ~$2.00 to buy a battery at a
Supermarket - go for it first.

thanks john f for a constructive response

and 'alan smith', you're as funny as leprosy. well done.
