Hi,

Change the time/date in the system BIOS. This is where Windows gets the time
from when the system is first loaded. If it continues to revert, then the
CMOS battery on the motherboard is dead and you will need to replace it
(something that is pretty easy).

I don't know what computer (or motherboard) that you are using for Windows
XP.

You can have problems with any of the following:

1.) Dead battery on your motherboard that maintains clock and motherboard
configuration settings. This is common for an older computer or one that is
turned off (or unplugged) more than its on.
2.) Failed clock chip (integrated circuit) on motherboard
3.) Bad driver or corrupted WinXP driver for clock functions
4.) Bad or wrong configuration on date/time

# 1 and # 2 are hardware related and you MAY need assistance from a repair
facility (if not a dead battery).
# 3 is a Windows XP install / repair function

So, I will run you through the steps for # 4

- Right click your mouse button at the time readout in the lower right (task
bar)
- Select Adjust Date/Time from pop-up menu
- Date and Time tab is shown -- Adjust date and time to proper settings
- Go to Time Zone tab -- Adjust to your proper Local Time Zone, IF your time
zone observed daylight savings time, make sure the box is checked in the
lower left.
- Go to Internet Time tab - Make sure the box is checked for "automatic"
time synchronization. Select NIST or Microsoft time server for computer
synchronization.

Since the problem apparently occurs only while the machine is
powered off, the battery on the motherboard is very likely
failing. Fortunately thery are very cheap ( a couple of dollars)
and easy to replace.

However, before you remove the old battery, it's a good idea to
go into the BIOS setup program and record all the settings there,
so you can reset them if removing the battery causes the loss of
all of them.

I have a similiar problem with the clock regarding the year only, and it
happens when my computer is on rather than at start up.My year has been
changed to 2000 and another time it changed to 2120.The day and month and the
time dont change,just the year.
