the clock resets its self to same day and time only changes year to
2002 everytime the computer is turned on or restarted.
How can I fix this
I don't know what computer (or motherboard) that you are using for Windows
XP.
You can have problems with any of the following:
1.) Dead battery on your motherboard that maintains clock and motherboard
configuration settings. This is common for an older computer or one that is
turned off (or unplugged) more than its on.
2.) Failed clock chip (integrated circuit) on motherboard
3.) Bad driver or corrupted WinXP driver for clock functions
4.) Bad or wrong configuration on date/time
# 1 and # 2 are hardware related and you MAY need assistance from a repair
facility (if not a dead battery).
# 3 is a Windows XP install / repair function
So, I will run you through the steps for # 4
- Right click your mouse button at the time readout in the lower right (task
bar)
- Select Adjust Date/Time from pop-up menu
- Date and Time tab is shown -- Adjust date and time to proper settings
- Go to Time Zone tab -- Adjust to your proper Local Time Zone, IF your time
zone observed daylight savings time, make sure the box is checked in the
lower left.
- Go to Internet Time tab - Make sure the box is checked for "automatic"
time synchronization. Select NIST or Microsoft time server for computer
synchronization.
