Clock randomly resetting time

I have a laptop at work runinng windows xp that keeps resetting the time to
midnight at random times. It keeps the date but just resets the time. As this
computer communicates with a weather station that sychronises with the
computer this issue is rather annoying. Other post imply that the BIOS needs
resetting but these generally refer to instances of the date and time
resetting, is this the same issue or is mine problem different. If I do need
to reset the BIOS how do I go about doing that?

Have you checked this machine for viruses?

Also check the settings in the Control Panel > Date and Time >
Internet Time. You may want to disable the auto-sync option and see if
this helps.

I had checked for viruses before I posted and it came up clear so I guess
it's nothing to do with that. The clock has never synced with the internet
and when I tried it previously it could never connect (although this might be
something to do with works internet filtering system).
