Have you tried to use some other NTP server?

What specifically is grayed out?
Well originally the bit where you select a time server was grayed out so I
couldn't enter anything. Mysteriously this went and now I can enter a server
but always get the afore mentioned error message.

I think your ISP server is having a problem. Try tock.usno.navy.mil
again. Remember we set the clocks ahead this weekend. Maybe they are working
on the server.

I'm sure any server I use will produce this message.
