We are using a windows 2000 server for the domain controller and have
two XP clients that are getting disconnected ramdonly. Both the
server and the clients have all of the latest patches and SPs
available from windows update site installed. After logging in from
the client everything works fine for a few hours then when the user
tries to access the drive with a red X the connection will not be
restablished. If they are using excell and try to open a spread sheet
from the disconnect drive they recieve this error: the system detected
a possible attempt to compromise security. Please ensure that you can
contact the server that authenticated you.
If they go thru MyComputer to access the network resources such as a
mapped drive they get this error: An error occurred while reconnecting
H:to\\server\share Microsoft Windows Network: The local device name
is already in use. This connection has not been restored.
When the disconnects happen the user can still access the
internet, send email and anything else that does not use domain
resources, but it seems to be disconnected from the domain only. I can
still ping the work station and I can ping other stations from the
workstation that is disconnected so I know IP is still working. If I
run netstat -n from the command line the ports are either established
or CLOSE_WAIT. When I use the netsh diag gui to test the client
machine everything shows PASSED.
I have set the auto disconnect on the server to the maximum time so
this should not be affecting any clients.

Any help or insight would be great.
Thanks

Robert Smith

yes, i have the same problem, with XP and Win 98 clients. And only certain ones.
All the troubleshooting and issues are the same...
