gI am running windows 2000 server with all updates with windows XP as
clients, as long as the server is logged in and not locked there is no
trouble accessing the server.

When the server is locked clients can not access the server can someone
please help.

Thanks for any help

Access in what way? What exactly happens when you try? Can you ping by name?
by IP address?

you can ping by address and name
if you are logged in with the server unlocked all is OK once the server is
locked you can not reach the server

That really doesn't answer those questions.

If the client is logged on and than the server is locked the client can not
access files on the server such as mapped drives or in network places

I am not at that location at this time so I will have to check what's what
when I can be there. Sorry for the lack of information at this time. I will
post again when I can be at the server. I hope you can understand my lack of
information at this time.
I just thought that this trouble had accured before and there was a fix. I
will let you know what I find out. Again sorry for the lack of information
and thanks for the help.

Not a problem. I'm sure you can understand that without the details we're
clueless. Also be sure to check Event Viewer and Device Manager for errors
and or non-starting devices. Normally whether the server has an active
console session, is logged off or logged on and locked should have no effect
on network connectivity.

Problem is resolved - I found that the router I am using had a check mark to
use DNS from the ISP I remove that and added my Windows2000 Server DNS
address as PRI, I also checked Windows 2000 Server DNS to ensure that root
hints was there and that all was right in DHCP,flushed DNS on all
workstations released ips on all workstations and renewed ALL IS FINE now
(also network is much faster now thanks for all your help, I knew if I
thought about it I could resolve my problem, but when you are trying to do
ten things at once you can tend to forget the basics. Thanks for your help
Dave

Glad to hear it's sorted.
