Client files

I'm trying to locate the client files needed to make a DOS boot disc that
will allow me to map access to a remote system running 2000. The link to
these files from the Symantec site is broken and I can't locate anything on
Microsofts's site.

According to the instructions for Norton Ghost, I need these files to be
able to perform the mapping function I need. If they are no longer available,
does anyone have an alternative solution?

Much of the networking ability is built into the Ghost.exe itself.

There are also multiple ways to perform imaging across a network with Ghost.
You will have to be more specific.

When trying to make a Drive Mapping boot disk in Ghost 2003, I reach a point
in creation process where I am prompted for the location of the MS-DOS client
files. Norton says that these files are supposed to be installed on the
machine making the disc before you start the disc creation wizard. The
problem is that I can't find the files I need. Symantec has a entire list of
them in document ID 1998081310484225. The completed disc would load the
needed files and then boot into the DOS level version of Ghost. From there, I
connect to the remote server holding the image file I needed to clone the
hard drive of the machine from which I am booting from. Put another way, I
need to be able to boot up a machine with no OS on it, connect to my network,
access a server that has an image on it for the machine I want to clone and
use Ghost to make the clone.

The Norton website's links for downloading the files I need are broken.

The MS DOS Client is on the old NT4 Server CD if you can find one of those
somewhere.

I would just have Ghost on a separate disk and swap disks after it is all
booted up.

another way I have got around this is by comming up with a second HD and
adding it to the machine, running Ghost and sending the image to that drive.
Then botting the regular OS up after that and simply copying the file from
the second HD to some location on the network. In fact I just did that on
one server today because nothing I tried would let the DOS drivers for the
NIC even see the NIC. After a while it just isn't worth the fight.

Ghost will also run a CD-R drive on its own and can burn the image to a CD
if the machine has a CD burner in it. I've done that on some laptops where
I was never able to get the built in NICs to activate with a DOS boot disk.

On the NT4 Server Cd the DOS Clients is located at:

<drive>:\CLIENTS\MSCLIENT

If you want the LanManager Client it is at:

<drive>:\CLIENTS\LANMAN
