Client cannot see server Home Network

Today I decided to network my desktop and laptop computers. Here is how it
is setup.

Line in to Cable Modem
Line from Cable Modem to port #1 on a 2 port Speedstream Router
Cable from port #2 on a 2 port Speedstream Router to the in port on a 5 port
hub.
Line #1 to Desktop
Line#2 to Laptop
I have set both computers to “Share this folder on the network†with the
Share Name C:
The names of each are correct and the locations are correct. The Desktop can
see the Laptop, but the Laptop cannot see the Desktop.
It reports “You might not have permission to use this network resourceâ€.

File and Printer sharing are turned on.
MS firewall is turned on. (I have tried turning them off.)
Speedstream router has a firewall, which is turn on. (I have tried turning
them off
Both units can get to the internet without a problem.

I can ping the Desktop through IP and by name.
I can see the Desktop on the Desktop.

What am I missing?

How are you trying to see the Desktop from the Laptop? What exactly
are you typing or clicking when you get the "You might not have
permission to use this network resource" message?

What IP addresses do the computers have? Are they public or private
addresses? If they're public, it isn't safe to share files -- other
people on the Internet might be able to see them.

Since you have a 2-port router, I don't understand why you also have a
5-port hub in the network. Here's how I'd set everything up with a
2-port router, such as the SpeedStream 2602:

1. Connect the cable modem to the router's WAN (Internet) port.
2. Connect the Desktop to the router's LAN port #1.
3. Connect the Laptop to the router's LAN port #2.

The router would assign private IP addresses (by default,
192.168.254.x on the SpeedStream 2602) to both computers and give
Internet access to them both.
