Clicking on Control Panel causes an Explorer Restart

I've searched and searched to find an answer to this one. I just
installed XP last night (I know, call me a late bloomer). Today
when I go to Start, Settings, Control Panel (seeing as how I'm a WIN2K
Junkie, I'm using the WIN2K menus and look)the Explorer (meaning the
desktop environment) seems to just do a restart. I was initially
getting some errors associated with it, but as most impatient computer
people I cleared these quickly. Now that I can do it on command, I
can't get an error, just a restart of explorer. I can get to
Control Panel by runing appwiz.cpl, but I was hoping I'd find a virus
or some spyware app to uninstall. Instead, I found nothing out of the
ordinary. I have found a couple other reportings of this problem,
but none of them had solutions. I hope someone out here knows what
to do to help me.

I'm running XP Pro, SP1, on a Dell Latitude C610 with 1 gig of RAM.
I'm dual partitioned for XP and LINUX.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Matt
