Click on a folder & search result folder opens instead of files

I have a window Xp and every time I try to open a folder, I get a blank
search result folder instead of list of files and folders that reside inside
that folder. Then I have to press the search bottom to see the list of files
and floders. How do I fix this? Thanks, aaa
