'Click Help and Support on the Start menu'

Anytime I require assistance and would like to solve a
problem myself instead of having to become a Microsfot
Passport holder, I'm instructed to do the following by
Microsoft:

'Click Help and Support on the Start menu, and then click
Support on the navigation bar at the top of the window.'

This is all and well if this function works; however,
since I installed XP Home, this feature has never worked.
The icon and shortcut do reside on my Start menu, but
nothing has ever happened when I click on it.

I've searched high and low throughout the Windows XP help
sections and there's absolutely nothing addressing this
problem. Please advise as how to get this portion
working. I'd also recommend that Microsoft address this
subject in their self-help sections, as I know of others
with this exact same problem.

When I do try to search for a solution to this problem, I
automatically get redirected and am therefore advised to
click on Help and Support which is located on the Start
menu in order to find the answer.

Microsoft should stop instructing XP users to...

'Click Help and Support on the Start menu, and then click
Support on the navigation bar at the top of the window'

....until they're sure that every operator is able to
access this function and do so.

Again, please advise as how to get this portion working
and responding correctly. Thanks in advance for
your 'Help and Support' :)

The two options I have found are:
a) Install SP1
b) Re-install

I understand you may not want to do b. Just make sure you backup your My
Documents folders for all users, preferably backup everything.

Kelly,

Via TechTV's message board, I was already referred to
Kellys-Korner and instructed to download the 'Help and
Support' fix prior to this post; however, it was all to
no avail. The fix downloaded and added itself to my
registry settings, but it didn't change a thing. Thanks
anyway.

Eric,

Thanks for your response; however, I've already tried
these two options to no avail. I initially performed a
simple upgrade from Me to XP Home SP1, but this only
resulted in my system being ridicously slow (as it had
always been stable and extremely quick with Me). I did
check the 'Help and Support' feature at that time, but it
did not fuction. I therefore did a complete clean
install, as well as converting my file system over from
FAT32 to NTFS...'night and day'! System speed was
corrected; however, the 'Help and Support' feature didn't
change...it's still muerto! I did download all critical
XP updates, as well as applicable XP and driver updates,
but it didn't change a thing. Thanks anyway for your help
and quick response. Take care.

This may sound dumb, but:
My problem with Help and Support was that when I clicked on Index, the
box was empty with just a small box with an x in it. I tried all the
things that people said may help and nothing.
The next day I went to Windows Update and installed some SECURITY
patches. They were all about patching security leaks. Well, after
installing these updates. I found that my Index field in Help was
working. It does't make sense to me but it fixed my problem.
Good luck, Walt

No, it doesn't sound dumb Walter.....at times updates break things and at
times updates 'really' fix things. Thanks for the feedback.)
