With windows 98 you could clear the screen of all the
program running to reduce them to the task bar

Is there any way to do the same with windows xp ?

Sure can. Top right of your screen you see what looks

like a minus (-) sign. Click it and it will send your
window to the taskbar. The Square sign makes it to fit
on your screen and the X is to Close.
