Clear Event Logs

I am attempting to clear the event logs on my windows
2000 server. As I attempt to do so I am receving
an "access is denied" message. I am logged on as the
domain administrator at this time.
What would block my permissions to clear the event logs?

Possible corruption.

Boot the recovery console and delete the .evt files from
%systemRoot%\SYSTEM32\CONFIG
