Cleaning your history...for real.

You know the feature where stored URLs will drop down as options as you type
in new ones? Well, there is one URL that has been there for over a year now.
I can't get rid of it. I clear my stored form entities, I flush my DNS, I
clear my cache and delete temporary internet files, I regularly clean out
cookies, and delete my history twice a day. From what I know, all of this is
only cleaning things up on the surface. I know there is more to be delt with,
that is why history/cache cleaning software exists. I've been told by many
people who work in the IT department at my college that this kind of stuff
can be done manually. I just can't find any sources on the internet that
discuss this topic.

So, let's discuss it here, shall we?

Negative. And if that were the case, why wouldn't any of my other bookmarks
produce similar effects?

Install CCleaner v1.17.090 and use applicable options. It's free, very
simple to use, and I think will resolve your problem. Download:
http://www.ccleaner.com/update/?v=1.16.084&l=1033 I had corrupted internet
history files that Clean Sweep could not delete and CCleaner resolved my
problem with them. I would suspect that the file that you have has been
corrupted and is the reason that you currently cannot delete.

Check the TypedURLs key in the registry
(HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs). Is
the problem entry in there? If so, you can delete it. Note that any
higher-numbered entries (they're named url1 though url25) will be disabled
unless you rename them. Changes to this registry key must be made while
IE is closed in order to be effective.
