Windows has many programs that start and take memory for itself.
I would like to know how to have as little programs start in this manner.

Also, How do you clean windows without reinstalling it ?

Click start/run, type msconfig and click ok. Go to the startup tab. Disable
anything you desire.

Ok, seriously, you will have to explain what you mean by that. If you are
just looking to validate the system file set and replace corrupted or
missing files, then "sfc /scannow" from the run prompt is the ticket.

No, "Windows" has no such thing. Of course *you* (or whoever set up
your computer) may have installed all sorts of applications that start
automatically, but this really has nothing to do with Windows, per se.

I would like to know how to have as little programs start in this manner.

Basically, just select the ones that you want to start automatically,
and then limit other applications from doing so.

In most cases, with "well-mannered" applications, it's usually as
simple as opening the undesired program and deselecting the option to
"display icon in the system tray" or to "start when Windows starts."

Additionally, Look in the C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Start Menu\Programs\Start Up and C:\Documents and
Settings\username\Start Menu\Programs\Start Up folders, and in the
system registry, primarily in the
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run keys.

You can also use MSConfig to determine how specific programs are
being started:

Also, How do you clean windows without reinstalling it ?

Again, "Windows" needs no cleaning. It is often necessary, however to
clean unnecessary, extraneous files from the hard drive. Start > My
Computer > right-click the C: drive icon > Properties, and select Disk
Cleanup. Follow this by defragmenting the drive.

I actually asked an HP tech about this, and this was his answer, and it is
how i run my windows at startup...

go to your "run" link, type in MSCONFIG..[microsoft configuration], and when
the box comes up, click on the "startup" tab.
remove all check marks in every box except ....

PS2
KBD
Hpsysdrv
Igfxtray
Hkcmd
RUNDLL32.dll
All entries starting with cc, like ccRegvfy and ccApp

if some of these are not showing up in your msconfig startup window, dont
sweat it. just put check marks in any of the above programs that you can find.

these are the basic programs that need to be activated to run windows.
everything else can be activated by just accessing them from your start menu
or your desktop icons, etc.

if for some reason when you restart your computer, a program that you want
to run, doesnt, you can go back and change your msconfig settings back to
"normal startup". [you will see this selection on the msconfig window, the
page that opens up when you run msconfig...just put a check mark there, and
apply it].
or you can use your restore program and go back a day or two to reset your
previous startup settings. no problem.

ive been running my computer with just these basic programs, and my computer
has run smoothly and loads up quickly, for years.

remember, this information came to me from help and support from my computer
[HP] tech help.

by the way...very clever the "windex" remark.
also, CLEANING WINDOWS is a great song by Van Morrison. just thought i would
throw that in there.
