Hi I just installed a new version of XP Home, that's all that is installed.
Does XP have all the drivers and what ever to run this computer? Or do I need more drivers ect. from
the manufacturer and what ever. i want to get away from OEM as far possible.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I have a sony Pcv RZ22G, only 1 yr. old. 1 gig mem, standard cd rom drives.

During the installation process, there was a list of hardware that may need
new drivers. If you have difficulty with any piece of hardware, visit the
manufacturer's site for driver updates.

To prevent having to do a clean install in the future, keep it clean with
frequent anti-virus scans, clear off spyware.

Hi

Best way is to go to the hardware manufacturer's web site(s) for the latest
XP compliant drivers.

At the very least you will need the manufacturers motherboard drivers, the
video drivers and the sound drivers.

When I download a driver, does this driver install itself or do I have to install it manually? If I do
it manually how is this done? I never down loaded a driver and installed it before.
Thanks, I want to install the video and audio drivers as requested in this thread.

You need to install drivers. It depends on the driver program how you do
it. Since you have a Sony, I suggest you download all drivers from
their site for your exact model computer. They will have installations
instructions on the site.

Malke

The site only lets you download their drivers, does not explain how they are installed. I am only
asking does the driver install it self when downloaded or does it have to be installed manually? If
manually, how? I am sure you know the answer or you wouldn't be a MS-MVP.

It depends on the driver. If it is an .exe file, double-click it to run.
If you supply the link to where you found the drivers on Sony's
website, I'll take a look and see if I can be more specific. Make sure
the link is for your exact computer model.

Malke

What format are the drivers in? Are they *.sys for example? Or, do
the files come as an executable: (windriver.exe) or inf
(windriver.inf)? It all depends. Most driver files require that they
be installed from within XP itself. In other words, from Device
Manager, update driver.

That's why Malke replied that you should try to obtain the drivers
from Sony who would probably have full instructions or some kind of
install routine like a "setup.exe" file.
