One more question on this... should I then go to microsoft and get the
updates since my XP was purchased in 2002?
 
After installing Windows XP, visit the Windows Update web site

Make sure that you have a firewall enabled before going online with an
unpatched XP. Without the firewall, it only takes seconds to pickup
blaster, sasser and a few other aggressive nasties.
