Clean Install of XPHOME hangs after initial file install

I recently got a new motherboard and HD, due to a head crash. The mother
board is Abit Fatal1ty F-190HD and the HD is WD 500G SATA. I have the
original XP home with no service packs. After booting from the SATA Philips
DVD writer, the HD is formatted the usual 130G partition and the initial file
load is accomplished with no problems. After the install boots to the HD to
continue the install, the banner XP Home screen is displayed, but without the
oblong window in the middle of the screen showing the horizontally scrolling
3 squares. I left the install at that point all night, but it never did
another thing.

I thought there might be a problem recognizing the SATA devices, so I hooked
up an old DVD-ROM and 250G HD to the IDE port and the same exact thing
occurred again, hanging at the initial banner screen after the boot. I have
1gB memory, Pentium 4 Prescott (3Gh). I tried to boot up in Safe Mode but
loaded it's driver files and just sat there. Any suggestions?

First set the BIOS for SATA,& set to cdrom/dvdrom as 1st boot device,hd
2nd in boot priority. Also,if Fatality has RAID capability,or even if it
doesnt,try
loading the ICH5 or ICH6 SATA/RAID drivers at the F6 option, when booting to
xp cd.Get the floppy drivers/software from ABIT or INTEL,for that controller,
usually with that installed before xp gets installed youre 500GB hd will be
recog-
nized entirely....Also,at xp set up screen, delete partition(s),create one
before
it formats the hd.
