cisvc.exe 99-100% CPU

My system has become virtually unusable because of extremely slow
performance caused by cisvc.exe constantly utilizing 99-100% of CPU
resources. I noticed this was a problem once before but was to have been
corrected with SP2. My OS is Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002
Service Pack 2. Anyone know of any hotfixes to correct this situation?
Presently I am manually killing all cidameon processes in additon to cisvc.

Please note the solution may deal with the symptoms but you can no
longer gain the benefits from using the Indexing Service.
