circle around letter

Fay,
It can be done, but let's say not in a easy way.
Use the EQ-field to create an overstrike.
Insert - Field - choose EQ - click on the field codes button - choose
options - select the \O() switch - click the add to field button and OK out.
Now press Alt+F9 to see the field, click between the two () and type A;O.
While the field is still visible select your A and reduce the letter size
say to 8 or 9 points, then with the A still selected go to Format - Font -
second tab - choose position (I think it is called) higher and increase by 1
or two points. Now hit ALT+F9 again.
Difficult isn't it but if you make an autotext off it you should have no
trouble using it.
That said I am sure someone else will have a better solution to offer you.

Is there a way to place a circle around an uppercase letter? Thank you.

If you mean around a C or an R just type (C) open bracket C close
bracket or (R) and it will do it for you.
If not a "quick and dirty" way would be to draw a circle from the draw
menu, then right clicking on it, select "format auto shape" then go to
"colors and lines" and set the color to "no fill" . Then just drag the
shape over your character.
Also, you can type within the circle by right clicking on the shape and
select "add text" you can then type inside the shape. You may find you
need to remove the margins from within the shape from the "format
autoshape" then "textbox" option. You may also need to centre the text
as well.

1. If you are not trying to exactly match a particular font, the easiest
way is to use Insert Symbol. Select Arial Unicode and Enclosed
Alphanumerics from Character Set. Assure that the applet is set for
Unicode (hex) in the lower right listbox.

The Arial Unicode font is not installed during a default install. You
might have to run the Office/Word installer and elect a custom install to
install the font.

2. Agfa Monotype and others have other fonts with enclosed characters.

3. Use the Enclose Characters facility of Word. To place that icon on
the toolbar, right click just under the top bar in a clear area and
select Customize. Select All commands. Scroll down. Select the
appropriate icon and drag it to the toolbar.

Luc and Mike make suggestions worth checking.

Let us know.

Hi Fay,

In large Unicode fonts like Arial Unicode MS or MS Mincho, there's also a
subset "Enclosed alphanumerics" starting at U+2460, with all circled numbers
and upper/lower case letters.
You could set up (formatted) AutoCorrects for them, say replacing #A# with
the circled A...

Regards,
Klaus
