choppy sound on startup

Its not a serious problem I know but one that is niggling me. When the
laptop starts up and it has the 'orb' there is that little startup jingle
(.wav) startup windows sound - well its 'choppy and not smooth'.

Laptop specs: 1gb RAM, 80GB HD, 2.0Ghz AMD, Vista home premium so its
should be up to the spec so I cant understand why choppy sound on startup.

Is this with an onboard sound card or seperate device - if so which make is
it?

I've had this happen on my Toshiba M200 (SoundMax integrated audio jobby),
with some nVidia drivers.

My solution was to disable the sound.
