Audio Playback is Choppy

Hi

I just recently reinstalled Windows XP onto my computer, and my audio
playback is a little choppy. It has never done that before, but even after
reinstalling twice the playback (whether in winamp, windows media player, or
in a movie) is still choppy. I also recently got a new set of speakers -
Logitech Z-380, but that shouldnt be the problem since the speakers were
working fine before I reinstalled XP. Another note: I reformatted and then
reinstalled XP, if that helps. I am not running off a sound card, but I am
running off of the built in SoundMAX chip in the motherboard. My specs are
below:

-Dell Dimension 4600
-Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz Single processor
-128 Mb GeForce FX 5200 Video Card
-Running on built-in sound card
-4 Hard drives: 2 connected by IDE to motherboard, the other 2 are connected
via a PCI IDE controller (PCI slot)
-1.25 Gb of RAM
-1 DVD Drive
-1 DVD Burning Drive
-USB 2 Card hooked up via PCI
-Network card hooked up on PCI
-Windows XP Professional SP 2 with latest updates
-DirectX 9.0C
