Audio is choppy and skips

I recently installed a Maxtor 160GB ATA drive and PCI
controller card (single drive with 2 partitions - 30 and
130 respectively) and loaded XP home and various software
packages. I have SP1 and the update to support drives
137GB. Here's my issue: audio playback regardless of
the source is choppy and sounds as if it skips like a
CD. In other words whether media is being streamed or
played locally (regardless of the program playing the
media), it frequently skips and hesitates. This is
especically noticable when other applications are being
accessed or closed.

Help. I want my MP3! JG

I have the exact same problem, tho I don't have a clue to
when this started regarding system changes..

It also worsennes with scrolling thru web pages and. I
know what causes this: buffer underruns in my sound card,
though it never did this before,
I use a motu PCI324 with 24i and 256 samples buffer size...

please help some one, i need my audio for project that are
on deadlines!!!!
