chopped display

I have finished installing Windows 2000 Professional on my new Microtel
pc using a K7S41 motherboard from ASROCK. My monitor is a NEC MultiSync
97f monitor, but am having trouble increasing the screen area.

I have been able to bring it to 1024x768. However, when try to increase
it, the screen area gets "chopped"... about 1-2 inches of area on the
top and bottom are gone. If I move the mouse to the top portion, it
_scrolls_ the contents of the display down so that I can see what is
being chopped above, but of course that just hides more of the lower
portion.

Yes, I am able to use the monitor menu to expand the screen to fit the
window, but that does NOT solve the problem of the lost portions of the
screen... some of the screen is chopped off.

I have the proper NEC driver for the MultiSync 97F.
Adapter Type is SiS 661FX_760_741_M661FX_M760_M741
(downloaded from the ASROCK site).
Refresh rate is set to 100 Hertz.
Using True Color (32bit).

Any idea why my screen area is not getting increased beyond 1024x768?

Thanks in advance.

Can you find separate settings for Desktop Size and Display Resolution?

Andrew

Your refresh rate is too high. 100 Hz. or even 120 Hz. is fine for 1024X768.
At 1280X1024 (recommended for this monitor) you need to reduce the rate to
85 Hz.
At 1600X1200 you need to reduce the refresh rate to 75 Hz.

If you keep trying to drive the monitor at too high a refresh rate, you're
gonna damage it.

OK, I put them back to 60.. thx for the heads-up on the possible damage.

BTW, the default setting was 60, I recall.. also, I still get the same
problem (described in the original post) with this 60Hz setting.

Thanks

I cannot find these settings in Control Panel/Display.

Where should they be located?

Thanks

The only drivers I've seen that do that (and that was eight years ago)
have them next to each other and you would have seen if that were the
case - you'll have to poke around in the Advanced... settings. Failing
that, you'll have to contact ASRock or SiS.

OK, so you're saying that since I _don't_ have these separate settings,
then I'm not using the funky drivers... :p I guess that's good in a
way, I'm sure I should be using drivers that are less than eight years
old. Still, this all is freaky and I wish I could figure out what's
going on (not that I can't live with it as it is, just annoying for some
of the applications that don't allow resizing of windows that I'd like
to have multiple and not overlapping).

Yeah, I've been trying to work with ASRock; hadn't thought about SiS.
I've emailed tech support for ASRock, but it's only really supposed to
be used for suppliers, so don't know how much help I'll get from there.

I thank you for trying to help out.
