I take it you've already removed the second XP installation? If
that's the case, do the following:
Go to Start -> Run and enter msconfig in the Open box.
Click on the Boot.ini tab.
On the Boot.ini page, click on the "Check All Boot Paths"
button.
You should told that there's an invalid entry and asked if you
want to remove it.
Go ahead and remove the invalid entry.

If you haven't removed the second XP installation, take a look
here at item #20,

I have two installations of XP on the same partition

Also, take a look at this article for more info:

Start..run..msconfig..boot.ini tab and click the Check all boot paths
button.

if you havn't removed the installation and still have two, you could modify
the boot.ini file descriptions and default startup installation. A
description might be for one install "My windows" and the other could be
"Windows backup". Then you could change/ensure that "my windows" is the
default.....

I think having a second installation is helpful becuase if your primary one
ever crashed and you wanted to restore it from a backup file, then you could
do it from your spare/emergency windows. Also, you can store your backup
file on the spare too.....

Just a trick if you havn't removed the unwanted installation.....
