Chkdsk

When I run chkdsk (without the /f) from the command prompt it states I have
an error in my volume bitmap file. If I then run the chkdsk immediately
there is no error found. When I run chkdsk again it says there is a bitmap
error again. It alternates back and forth. I notice there is no difference
in the disk space used between the errored chkdsk and the error free chkdsk.
No errors appear when I run norton disk doctor or if I check the partiition
using partition magic. Running the chkdsk /f does not change the problem.
The set up is a raid 0 using two identical SATA drives. I have run checks
on the harddrives and they seem okay.
I have tried defragmenting, and even changing the partition size to see if
the problem would correct itself but the problem remains.
This has happened several times before. The only solution is to make a
partition backup. Reformate the partition and restore the backup. This
appears to solve the problem but after a couple of weeks the problem
reappears. Any ideas as to what is causing this? Should I be concerned or
is this a typical problem with NTFS and XP?
P.S. The partition does not have a dirty byte set so I have no problems
with defragmenting ,etc.

There certainly used to be a bug that resulted in Chkdsk giving this
message spuriously. I thought it had been fixed, but maybe you did not
get the patch concerned
