on my xp home machine there are al lot of corrupt files on my disk.

chkdsk /f won't work there the disk is active. On reboot the systems tries
to chkdsk but the systems says the the disk is no xp disk and skip the
chkdsk.
how can I manually chkdsk /f this systems
Can I make a boot floppy with chkdsk on it (win98)

Click on my computer and right click on C drive follow by
properties and click on tools, under error checking,
select check now. A check disk box will appear, ensure
that both boxes are tick and click ok (so that check disk
will sacn for bad sector and fix it.)Window will prompt
you that inorder for check disk to run, you need to
restart the pc. yes or no? Select yes, and once your pc
restart, check disk will run.

.
here are two possibilities
1 use your xp and boot to recovery console and run
chkdsk /r
or chkdsk /p

make the six xp boot floppy disks 310994
(support.microsoft.com)
you will need to point towards the location of checkdisk
on the hard drive
c:\windows\system32

thanks,
but runnuing chkdsk c: /r/p in the console you discribed give the following
message (translated from dutch)
"the volume has on or more unrecovereble errors." and stops with the message
of how many clusters there are free and used on the disk. BUT NO REPAIR.
