Please help
I have norton 2006 on my pc, it tells me I have a corrupt file (piccent.exe)
and tells me to run chkdsk utility, this then starts on power up and takes
about 45 minutes before I can use my pc. Can I stop this doing this check or
have I set something to automatically run this check.

So you're saying chkdsk runs every time the computer is booted? If so go to
Kelly's site:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm
Click on "C" and scroll to "Check Disk - Disk Checking Runs Upon Boot" for
troubleshooting tips.

I am yet to confirm this, but your might try launching a command
prompt, and typing chkdsk /r [drive in question]. If it is your main
drive, it will ask if you would like to run chkdsk on next boot,
because the drive is busy. I would think answering no to this should
set whatever boolean that launches chkdsk back to false.
