CHKDSK SYSTEM FILE CHECK 1 OF 3 STAGES

ON MY XP PRO LAP TOP ,AT START UP IT GOES TO A BLUE SCREEN AND SAYS ;
chkdsk system file 1 of 3 stages ; then it says NTFS chkdsk volume dirty
then it starts stage 2 and 3 . then it says something like cant read
securtythen it it stops and the screen goes blank ,and sometimes windows
starts up and some times it keeps doing that over and over it takes a long
time to start up eather way
like 20 min. to start and run . any suggestions?

Boot to the XP setup CD, and press 'r' for recovery console, run the command : CHKDSK /R
