CHKDSK lockup

When I run chkdsk (which is all the time upon boot up now, since it
auto-initiates itself) it accomplished the first 2 of 3 tasks fine. It locks
up during the reapiring lost file phase. It appears I have an orphaned file
but it cannot repair or recover it. What can i do?
