It seems that CHKDSK wants to run every time I reboot my computer. But it
never completes because there is an error. I need to defrag my drive but can
not. When I try to run my defrag program it tells me that chkdsk is set to
run on start up. Any ideas?

Thanks...

What is the actual error being reported by CHKDSK?

Go to the hard drive manufacturer's web site, download their free
diagnostic software, and run that to check out the drive for possible
hardware problems.

Good luck

The error I get is ... "An Unspecified Error As Occurred"

Sheesh, that's as bad as one of my grandchildren's games which
delights in saying "an undetectable error has occurred".

Have you tried the factory diagnostics for your drive yet? Most of
the references that I can find to this error message indicate that it
is usually related to a hardware problem with the drive itself, and
that the total failure of the drive may not be far away.

Could this have anything to do with the drive being too hot?

Of course! You are having hardware problems, not software (Windows)
issues.

Here are some general hardware troubleshooting steps:

Testing hardware failures often involves swapping out suspected parts
with known-good parts. If you can't do the testing yourself and/or are
uncomfortable opening your computer, take the machine to a professional
computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigStoreUSA).
