chkdsk.exe is gone

chkdsk is gone i am running xp pro on a toshiba laptop and file is missing
also getting message that windows\Prefetch is corrupted .... my xp disks are
at home
help please

Hi,

Check for a copy of chkdsk.exe under C:\Windows\System32\dllcache, there
should be one there.

Files in the prefetch folder can simply be deleted. The folder will rebuild
the entries as you continue to use the system.

How is it "gone",it doesnt even run in xp.Try run,type:cmd In cmd type:
CHKDSK C: It should chk in a "read only" mode,then type:CHKDSK C: /F
If youre refering to diskclean up utility,in cmd type:cleanmgr The
utility shows.
Youve probably got a corrupt user account,create new,restart xp,open in new,
if all shows and works thats where youre at,delete old account.
