Chkdsk created a Found Folder and placed files in it that it found.

I ran chkdsk on my XP PC the other day and it found a number of files
which it placed in a number of found.000, 001, 002 ....... folders. I
can see all the file details of the files but I cannot access them,
move them, copy them or delete them. The message I get is that access
is denied.
Any idea somebody?

Delete them. They are fragments of your computers imagination.

Actually, just lost bits of old deleted files that are useless wastes of
drive space.

Unless you're missing critical documents or manuscripts.

Nuke 'em. It'll make you feel good.

Trust me.

PS: If you have trouble getting rid of them, right-click>properties>
uncheck read-only and hidden. Then waste their sorry butts.

Unfortunately they are data files that are valuable to me and one day
from being backed up! I already tried deleting them by removing the
hidden and read only atttribute. But to no avail...... I get the access
denied message!

These are files that have been logically corrupted and are basically
unusable, hence chkdsk saves them as you see. If you use a file viewing
program you "may" find that some of them are plain text files. If the file
is complete and intact you can just rename it using the correct file
extension. If the file is not complete you can copy/paste what you can into
a new file with the correct extension.

Most people just delete these files when found.

This is *not* correct.

These are fragments of files that were either in lost clusters or
cross-linked clusters. True, more often than not they aren't needed, or even
if they are, they are not in any usable format. But it does sometimes happen
that these are fragments are readable text, and if there is no other copy of
that text anywhere, can be pieced back together to get back all, or at least
parts, of files that might be otherwise inaccessible.

In most cases these *can* be deleted without harm, but I wouldn't recommend
that anyone do so without at least first looking to see what they are.

Right click on the Folder and/or file, use the Security Tab, and see you
owns them.
If you don't have the Security Tab, turn off Tools | Options | View Tab
..... Use Simple file sharing.

You fail to mention what CP version you have (Home, Media, Pro)?
