chkdsk boot-up and cannot run defrag with windows or norton

Each time I start up (boot-up)the system automatically
runs chkdsk. I cannot run defrag in Windows or Norton
System Works as error message says chkdsk/f is waiting to
be ran. File chkdsk/f is not in my list of files and will
not run. Consequently, I cannot run defrag at all. How
do I correct this problem or can someone send me a file
for chkdsk/f? I have two chkdsk files and deleting one or
the other does not correct problem. Should I delete both
chkdsk files or will this mess up the system boot-up?
Uninstalling Norton did not change anything either.

Please help.

remove the last two windows updates and it will correct the problem.

Chkdsk.exe is a standard W2k command that can be run with or without
several parameters, to different effect. For info and syntax, go to a
command prompt and enter
chkdsk /?
Note that chkdsk, run without parameters, simply analyses the
partition's files structures and reports problems found - it does not
fix them.

A version of chkdsk (autocheck) will run automatically on a partition
if, at boot-time partition inspection, W2k determines that at shutdown
that partition may have been left in a corrupted state. Autockeck will
attempt to identify and fix any such problem before the W2k system is
fully loaded. This is a reliability/integrity feature.

Autocheck will also be run at next boot if the user attempts to run
"chkdsk /f" on a partition that is currently in use by the OS and cannot
be "locked for exclusive use" by the chkdsk routine; this is ALWAYS the
case with the system partition itself. In these cases, autocheck will be
run if the user elected to "run chkdsk at next boot" when that option
was offered.

Do as the other poster suggested. Post back in this thread if
uninstalling those updates doesn't solve the problem.
