Hi,
I've been having problems using CHKDSK on my machine on which ZoneAlarm 5 is
installed, just like many others. Scheduled CHKDSK simply won't start, or
gives me messages like "Disk check is cancelled" or "Cannot have direct
access", something like that.
Fortunately, I found a workaround instead of uninstalling ZoneAlarm.
Procedures:
1. Disable ZoneAlarm auto-startup.
2. Exit ZoneAlarm.
3. Change the following registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\vsdatant\Start
from 1 to 2. (You may want to backup the registry first)
4. Schedule a CHKDSK by entering the following in CMD
chkdsk c: /f or chkdsk c: /r or anything you want CHKDSK to
do.
5. Restart the computer. (CHKDSK should run properly)
Of course after that, it's better that you modify the registry back from 2
to 1.
Hope this helps,
Nelson
