Chinese characters appear in fields suddenly

Running Win XP, Access 2002 SP3

Data fields of one record were suddenly replaced by chinese looking symbols.
These symbols can't be replaced or deleted ("Error: The search key was not
found in any record"). This happened 3 months ago as well.

Is this some kind of virus?

How can I prevent this?

Hi Tony,

It is most likely due to corruption.

How can I prevent this?

Any chance the field in question is a memo field? Although others will argue
with me, I have experienced this type of corruption in the past using the
memo data type.

What do you mean by "corruption"? Is it a software problem or did someone
hack in?



The chinese looking characters appeared simultaneously in all of the about
20 fields for one record. They are text fields, not memo fields.

Tom's suggesting that something corrupted your MDB file.

It could have been a software error, it could have been a hardware error.
It's unlikely to be hacking.
