Just so i understand this fully. I have a couple of questions
I have "root.local" domain and want to add a child domain under this called "child.root.local".
After setting this up, do i have to create a site for this child domain in
sites and services at the root for the replication to take place ( If any at
all is needed).
No. All servers and clients may be in the same site as any other domain's
servers and clients. Sites and domains do not necessarily have anything at
all to do with each other. Think of it this way ...
Forests and domains are logical constructs that have to do with locating
objects in an LDAP namespace. IOW - they are hierarchical.
Sites are topgraphical constructs objects that are related to network
topology and control how domain controllers replicate with each others and
how clients access resources closest to them.
A domain may span many sites ... a site may have members of many domains
....
Also when i dcpromo the child domain should i have a secondry zone of the
root already running at the child domain? Microsoft says you should delegate
at the root before i dcpromo the child domain.
This all depends upon the location of the domain conrollers and servers in
the new domain and who you would like administering them. If your
installation is fairly simple and the existing DNS is running dynamic zones,
you can run DCPROMO and the child domain will be created automatically on
your DNS server for you. If you wish a different DNS server to host the
zone information for a new domain, then perform the delegation to that
server - then run DCPROMO.
