Checksur.exe has stopped working

Hello all,
I have been running Vista Business 32bits for more than one year now, and I
never had a problem to install an update. In fact, it happened yesterday for
the first time: it's the System Update Readiness Tool (KB947821). Windows
Update starts the installation, there is much disk activity during 1-2
minutes, then an error message: "CheckSUR.exe has stopped working", and
that's all. Nothing more. Windows Update displays a funny "Vista is up to
date", and the list shows " KB947821 failed" (very humorous, that Vista
!...). Check for Updates indicates that no update is found for my computer.
I downloaded the file, stopped the antivirus, and several other
applications, reinstalled, but I still got the same problem.
Some help would be much appreciated
