Checksum bad

R

ringer

When booting up, got an error message "checksum
bad"...options offered were F1 for Setup or F2 to load
default...selected F2 & Windows loaded. But date/time
were all messed up, otherwise everything appears to be
working. What is Checksum, what caused this bootup error
& how do I fix this? Thanks for help.

Did you recently flash your BIOS? If so, try clearing
CMOS. Check your mainboard manual for how to do
that. Also, turn off your computer *at the surge
protector* or unplug it, and take precautions against
static discharge. Then set up up your BIOS again.
Terrible advice. Don't do any of that. When you get a checksum error, it
normally means that you need to replace the battery on your
motherboard. $3 part, easy job.

Nonsense. I've been there and done that. As I suggested
in my response, if you get a "checksum bad" after flashing
your BIOS, clearing CMOS and setting it up again often
solves the problem.
