Checking for missing files

How can I check my Windows XP Media Center Edition for missimg files. Is
their a way to run Win XP to check and replace missing files without having
to restore the whole system? Anyone have any ideas.
You use to only have to run windows disk and itwould replace missing files
and not redo the whole thing.
